Gruhn May Inc.

  Lt Gordon G Gruhn served in the United States Navy Civil Engineering Corps SeaBees with numerous deployments overseas in both war and peacetime including two tours in Vietnam.  He enlisted after graduating high school in his home state of Nebraska, his long and distinguished "can do" career was cause for numerous metals and commendations, including Navy Meritorious Service, Navy Achievement and Navy Commendation Medals. Following his last deployment to Vietnam Lt Gruhn applied for and received a permanent assignment at NS Mayport were he served as  Asst. Public Works Director until his retirement in 1972.

 

 Shortly after, "Gruhn May Inc". was formed, when he and son-in-law Ron May ( also former USN where he served in Operation Deep Freeze in Antarctica) bought into what was then George Notter and Associates.  Gruhn May Inc quickly became known as the "can do" utility contracting firm in the area with in house pipe fab, welding, tapping, rodding capabilities and a work ethic that was/is second to none.

     Mr Gruhn's two sons Gordon Jr. and Otto began working with Gruhn May Inc. at an early age, part time at first while still in school then full time, both boys were brought up in the mud and guts of utility work and Dad's "can do" attitude & work ethic were instilled in them from the beginning. Today we proudly carry on.
